Consolidation continues, with two expanded cellular plastic competitors merging into one. With Investissement Québec as a shareholder, Polymos, established in Greater Montreal since 1969, has just acquired Granby-based Polyform, also in business for some fifty years. The merged company now operates seven plants in Canada and employs over 400 people.
The Association québécoise de la quincaillerie et des matériaux de construction (AQMAT) had no trouble convincing hardware and materials manufacturers to turn out in droves for a filmed version of the industry’s annual gala, because the pandemic that keeps merchants and manufacturers on their toes needed RECONNAISSANCE, the name of the event held live on YouTube, like never before.
In front of an audience estimated at over 600, the award ceremonies saw three merchants and three manufacturers honored for their achievements in various award categories, in addition to three products deemed particularly innovative, as well as a whole host of employees and managers. For the first time since its creation, instead of a popularity vote among members followed by the deliberations of a jury, it was AQMAT’s management that listed the highlights of the past year and selected the winners, justifying its status as a privileged observer and industry leader.
